About Us
On March 22, 2013, Dos Amigos opened its doors to the public for the very first time.
Originally located at the site of a Taco Bell in years past, owner and creator Hugo fell in love with the location as he was looking for a place to open his new restaurant. Situated originally on Route 47, he purchased the plot and quickly set about remodeling the old Taco Bell. Choosing bright colors and decorations that were reminiscent of a Spanish villa, he wanted to create an atmosphere that would fit in well with the authentic Mexican experience that he wanted to give to visiting patrons.
It wasn’t enough to make just the building look authentic — the food is what Hugo wanted to set him apart from the other Mexican restaurants in the area. He wanted a real Mexican-style type of cooking for his establishment. Once the remodeling was done in the kitchen, he sat down to create a menu that would give his customers a real taste of how Mexican cooking should be. All ingredients used in every dish are made on site and are homemade at Dos Amigos, giving every dish a unique taste that you would be hard pressed to find in any other restaurant in the area.
In 2019, Dos Amigos moved from its first location at that old Taco Bell and is now located within the ShopRite plaza, just across the street from its original home. Still in view of Route 47 and easily accessible within the plaza, Hugo is still passionately cooking and serving both the residents of Rio Grande, New Jersey and all of the tourists that journey down to visit the south Jersey Shore. Dos Amigos is the culmination of a dream and vision after nearly a decade of planning, serving and cooking, and with the loyal patronage and help from its customers and employees, it will continue to grow in the years to come.
